Summary:
As the Director of Nursing Services, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties. The primary purpose of your job is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the over-all operations of the Nursing Department in accordance with Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, regulations that govern our facility; and as maybe directed by the Administrator and Medical Director to ensure the highest degree of quality is maintained at all times.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day functions of the nursing department in accordance with current rules and regulations, comply
  • with all written policies and procedures and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
  • Ensure that the 24 hour and 5-day Abuse Reports are completed and sent timely to DHHS.
  • Maintain sufficient staffing and, ensure clinical staff have been sufficiently trained to care for residents.
  • Attend all required meetings.
  • Maintain department budget.
  • Communicate to COO and Regional Clinical Manager if any regulatory agency is in the facility, and this includes when calling the Fire Department and/or Police Department.
  • Notify Regional Clinical Manager and HealthCap for any sentinel events and abuse allegations.
  • Order and maintain narcotics in FirstDose.
  • Maintain pharmacy manifests daily.
  • Maintain DEA Form 222 and pharmacy requests for narcotics.
  • Maintain crash carts daily
  • Review Infection control line list weekly.
  • Assess residents with acute changes in condition to ensure appropriate clinical interventions are in place.
  • Participate in the facility surveys (inspections) made by the authorized government agencies as may be required.
  • Assist Administrator with Plans of Correction.
  • Monitor acutely ill residents routinely.
  • Administer nursing services necessary to maintain the highest practicable level of well-being.
  • Complaints & Grievances: Investigate complaints and grievances filed by residents, families, etc.
  • Investigate all allegations of resident abuse, neglect, misappropriation and/or exploitation of resident property and follow up with the appropriate required agencies, i.e. police, state agency, etc.
  • Attend and participate in outside training programs and facility provided in-service training. These may include, but are not limited to: OSHA, HIPAA, Antibiotic Stewardship, Advanced Directives, etc.
  • Provide data as requested for the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee.
  • Follow all HIPAA regulation.
Required Skills, Education, Licensure, and/or Certifications:
  • Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in NC.
  • Current CPR BLS Certification with in-person skills assessment.
  • Must have Skilled Nursing Facility experience
  • 3 to 5 years of nursing supervisory experience in a hospital or nursing facility
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
